Booking a skip in Tumbulgum

Before Murwillumbah grew, Tumbulgum was the Tweed Valley's main town. Early settlers called it Tweed River Junction, or just The Junction, and the name changed to Tumbulgum in the early 1880s. Today it's a quiet village of about 450 people, almost all in detached houses, with cane fields on the low land to the east.

Where the skip goes

With a house on nearly every block, your driveway or yard is usually the easiest place for a skip. A bin on your own property needs no approval. The truck needs firm ground and room to manoeuvre, so pick a spot away from soft lawn if you can.

After a flood

The village sits where the Tweed and Rous rivers meet, and floods are part of life here. The 2022 flood was the biggest on record at Tumbulgum. For a clean-up of soaked carpet, plasterboard and furniture, a General Builders bin is the right choice. Leave out chemicals, gas bottles and anything that might contain asbestos.

Rules and times

Skips on the road, footpath or nature strip need Tweed Shire Council's approval to place a skip bin in a public place, and there's a fee. That's yours to arrange. Our delivery times are Queensland time, an hour behind NSW in the daylight saving months.

Tumbulgum questions

Common questions

Can I get a skip in Tumbulgum tomorrow?

Book before midday and it can arrive the next day, since we need 36 hours' notice. Choose AM or PM at checkout. It's a preference rather than a set time, and it runs on Queensland time.

Do I need council approval in Tumbulgum?

Only if it's on public land. On the road, footpath or nature strip you'll need Tweed Shire Council's approval to place a skip bin in a public place, plus the council fee. You apply and you're responsible for it. On your own property, nothing is needed.

Which size for a whole-house clean-up?

A 6m³ holds about 24 wheelie bins and a 9m³ about 36. One of those usually covers a whole house. For one or two rooms, a 4m³ is often enough.

Can I keep the skip longer while I clean up?

Yes. Two weeks is included, and you can add an extra week or go unlimited when you book.
