New estates, waterfront and workshops: Coomera skips

Coomera lies beside the Pacific Motorway, with the Coomera River on its southern edge. Westfield Coomera is within the suburb, and so is Dreamworld, over on Dreamworld Parkway. Think of Coomera in three parts: fresh housing estates, a waterfront community and a marine industry precinct. Each one raises its own skip questions, from gate access to hardstand space, so here's what to consider for each.

Settling into a new home

Newly built homes create their own kind of rubbish. There's packaging from the move, offcuts left over after the garage is fitted out, and landscaping waste once the turf goes in. Foxwell Road has seen several townhouse projects approved in recent years, and it's also the road to Coomera station. If you live in a townhouse complex, ask the body corporate before a skip goes on the shared driveway. A 3m skip, which holds around 12 wheelie bins, is a good match for the boxes and packaging after moving in. Step up to a 4m or 6m for a townhouse fit-out or for landscaping the new yard.

Inside Coomera Waters

Coomera Waters fronts the water and includes a marina, and parts of the estate are gated for security. If your home is behind one of those gates, arrange access for the delivery truck in advance, and find out whether the estate has any rules about skip bins. Garden makeovers on waterfront blocks are a job for a Green Waste bin, provided the prunings aren't mixed with other rubbish. Anything else, from old furniture to renovation offcuts, needs a General Household or General Builders bin instead.

Marine precinct workshops

The Coomera River is also home to the Gold Coast marine industry precinct, where boat builders and servicing businesses are based. Clearing out or fitting out a workshop can call for a 9m, or the 15m hook bin if a truck can reach a hardstand on site. Before you book, ask the landlord or site manager where a bin is allowed. For scale, a 15m holds roughly 60 wheelie bins, or about 15 box trailer loads.

Permits and street placement

Within your own boundary, a skip doesn't need a permit. Put it on the road, footpath or nature strip and you'll need a permit from the City of Gold Coast, which you apply for yourself. From start to finish, that permit is your responsibility, not EZI's. For townhouse owners, that's a good reason to get a spot approved inside the complex before looking at the street.

Coomera questions

Common questions

Can I book a skip for tomorrow in Coomera?

Yes, as long as you book online before 12 noon. The earliest delivery is 36 hours after booking, so a morning order can arrive the following day. Choose your date and an AM or PM preference, keeping in mind that it's a preference and not an exact time.

Where can I put a skip without a permit in Coomera?

Anywhere inside your own boundary, like your driveway or yard. In a townhouse complex, an approved spot on common property also works, depending on the body corporate's by-laws. If the bin must go on the street, footpath or nature strip, you'll need to arrange a permit with the City of Gold Coast yourself.

What do I need to do in a gated part of Coomera Waters?

Organise gate access for the truck before delivery day, and ask the estate whether it has any skip bin rules. If the truck can't get through the gate, it can't drop the bin, so have this lined up before you book online.

Can soil from new landscaping go in a skip?

Yes, in a Dirt bin of 4m³ or smaller. Soil is heavy, so bins of 6m³ and above can't take it. Concrete and clean rubble can go in a bin up to 6m³. If you have more heavy waste than one bin allows, call 1800 462 674 to split the load.
