Coolangatta
skip bin hire

Around three in every four Coolangatta homes are apartments, so it pays to agree on a spot with your building before the skip turns up. Then book online in a few steps, get next-day delivery when you order before midday, and keep the bin for a full two weeks.

Skips at the southern tip of the Gold Coast

No Gold Coast suburb sits further south than Coolangatta. Its beaches run from Kirra past Coolangatta Beach and Greenmount to Snapper Rocks and Rainbow Bay, while Boundary Street heads inland from Point Danger, tracing the line between Queensland and New South Wales. Two landmarks are heritage-listed: St Augustine's Church in McLean Street and, down on Marine Parade, the Kirra Beach Pavilion. EZI Skips runs out of the BOSH Bins yard at 1/14 Fremantle Street, Burleigh Heads, roughly 20 minutes away and mostly on the M1, and brings every size from 3m to the 15m hook bin.

Working with your body corporate

Apartments were about three-quarters of Coolangatta homes at the 2021 Census. In a unit block, it's your building manager or body corporate who decides where the skip can sit. Visitor parking, a loading bay or part of the driveway are the likely candidates. Basement car parks are often too low for the truck, so look for somewhere uncovered. Once you've booked, share the date with your building manager. That way the neighbours know a skip is on its way.

Refits, move-outs and holiday lets

More than 40 per cent of homes here were rented in 2021, so clearing out when tenants or owners leave is typical skip work. So are apartment kitchen and bathroom refits, refreshing holiday lets, and renovating the suburb's smaller number of stand-alone houses. Use a General Household bin for furniture and boxes, and a General Builders bin for anything stripped out of a kitchen or bathroom. No bin can take asbestos, tyres or batteries, and contamination fees apply.

Picking a size

Clearing out a unit or redoing one bathroom? A 3m or 4m is usually plenty, and a smaller bin leaves more of the shared driveway or visitor parking free. A 3m holds about 12 wheelie bins of waste and a 4m about 16. Renovating a whole apartment may call for a 6m. House renovations and demolitions are bigger again, so consider a 9m, or even the 15m hook bin where there's space on the block. Heavy waste has limits: concrete up to a 6m bin, dirt up to 4m.

Kerbside permits

A skip inside the property boundary needs no council permit. That includes common property, as long as the body corporate has approved it. If the skip ends up out on the street, footpath or nature strip, the City of Gold Coast requires a permit. Getting it is up to you, along with full responsibility for it, and EZI Skips doesn't arrange permits for customers.

Coolangatta questions

Common questions

What's the lead time for a skip in Coolangatta?

Allow at least 36 hours from booking, which puts the cut-off for next-day delivery at midday. Choose your date when you book online. Pick an AM or PM preference and share it with your building manager, bearing in mind it's a preference, not a fixed time.

When is a council permit needed in Coolangatta?

When the skip goes on the road, footpath or nature strip. In that case a permit from the City of Gold Coast is required, organising it is your job, and you're responsible for it. Inside the property boundary, including an approved spot on common property, there's no permit to get.

Can a skip truck get into my building's basement?

Often not. Basement car parks in Coolangatta unit blocks are often too low for a skip truck. Look for an uncovered spot instead, such as visitor parking, a loading bay or part of the driveway, and have your building manager or body corporate approve it before you book.

What goes in which bin for a holiday let refresh?

Furniture, boxes and general household rubbish go in a General Household bin. If you're also pulling out a kitchen or bathroom, that strip-out waste suits a General Builders bin. Keep asbestos, tyres, batteries, gas bottles, liquids, wet paint and chemicals out of every bin.
