From swamp to lakeside suburb: skips in Burleigh Waters
Large parts of Burleigh Waters used to be known as Stephens Swamp. In the late 1970s Hooker Corporation extended the canals across the area, and the name Burleigh Waters became official in 1981. Today the suburb takes in five named lakes and a run of streets named after birds, such as Dotterel, Honeyeater and Cassowary Drives. Whistler Drive is home to Caningeraba State School, and Reedy Creek Road to Marymount College.
Getting the skip in from the street
With a lake or canal behind the house, all your rubbish has to leave through the front, which makes the driveway the obvious place for a bin. Clear the cars away before the truck arrives and keep the entry free. Separate houses accounted for about 71 per cent of homes here in 2021, while townhouses and similar dwellings made up about 26 per cent. If you're in a townhouse, the shared driveway is the body corporate's, so get their approval first. Standard hire is 14 days, so choose a spot you can give up for a fortnight, or add extra time.
Kitchens, bathrooms and floors
Houses have been going up in Burleigh Waters since the late 1970s, so a lot of kitchens, bathrooms and floors are ready to be replaced. A General Builders bin in 4m or 6m handles that kind of strip-out. If you're redoing the whole house with new flooring and cabinetry, step up to a 9m, which holds roughly 36 wheelie bins. Asbestos, tyres and batteries stay out of every bin, so set them aside as you go.
Gardens, paving and old pools
Prunings and plants from a garden makeover need their own Green Waste bin. Keep it to garden material only, because contamination fees apply. Pulling up paving or removing an old pool creates heavy waste, so weight limits kick in. Dirt can only go in a bin up to 4m³, and concrete up to 6m³. Bins of 6m³ and larger can't take soil at all. If your job produces more than one bin can hold, call 1800 462 674 and the load can be split.
Council rules for Burleigh Waters skips
There's no permit needed while the skip sits inside your boundary, whether that's the driveway or the front yard. Move it onto the road, the footpath or the nature strip and you'll need a permit from the City of Gold Coast. You make that application and take responsibility for it. Permit applications aren't something EZI Skips handles, so if the front of your block is tight, plan around this early.

Common questions
Is next-day delivery possible in Burleigh Waters?
Deliveries are available from 36 hours after booking. Order online before 12 noon and your skip can arrive the following day. Choose the date that suits you and an AM or PM preference, remembering that AM or PM isn't a guaranteed delivery time.
Can I leave the skip on the street outside my place?
Yes, but you'll need a permit from the City of Gold Coast for any bin on the road, footpath or nature strip. You apply for it and you're responsible for it, because EZI Skips doesn't arrange permits. Keep the skip inside your boundary, on the driveway or front yard, and no permit is required.
How long can I keep the skip?
Standard hire is 14 days. If your project needs longer, add an extra week or unlimited hire when you book. Because the bin stays in the same spot for the whole hire, pick somewhere you won't need, like one side of the driveway, until it's collected.
Can paving go in a Green Waste bin?
No. Green Waste bins are for garden material only, and contamination fees apply if other rubbish gets mixed in. Broken paving and concrete go in a Concrete & Clean Rubble bin of up to 6m³, and soil goes in a Dirt bin of 4m³ or less.
