Skip hire for every kind of Miami home

Back in the early 1920s, a real estate development called Miami Shore was laid out at North Burleigh, taking its name from Miami Shores in Florida. Timber and fibro bungalows went up on estates like that one, and Miami Shore Parade still carries the name. The suburb today is split north to south by the Gold Coast Highway. From the highway, Hythe Street heads down to the beach, Christine Avenue and Pacific Avenue lead west, the second of them home to the Pizzey Park sporting complex.

Three kinds of home, almost evenly split

At the 2021 Census, flats and apartments made up about 37 per cent of Miami's homes, attached homes like townhouses and duplexes about 32 per cent, and separate houses about 31 per cent. That's why the first question here is placement, not size. A house with its own driveway will usually take a 3m³ or 4m³ skip. Share a duplex driveway? Have a word with your neighbour. Living in a unit complex? Check what the body corporate allows first.

Older cottages and fibro

Gutting an older Miami cottage is a step up from a unit refresh, and a 6m³ or 9m³ skip is the usual range. Fibro is the thing to watch. The QBCC, which regulates building in Queensland, says asbestos is quite likely to be present in a house built before 1990. We can't take asbestos in any bin, so get suspect sheeting tested before anything comes down.

Knock-downs and heavy loads

At the big end, a knock-down rebuild suits the 15m³ hook bin or a 9m³ skip, and sometimes more than one. The 15m³ takes around 60 wheelie bins' worth. Heavy material has its own limits: dirt only goes in a bin up to 4m³, and concrete in one up to 6m³. Got more than that? Call 1800 462 674 and we'll divide it between bins.

Placing a skip on a Miami street

A skip kept on your own land needs no permit. Public land is different. For the road, footpath or nature strip, the City of Gold Coast has to issue a permit, and you're the one who applies for it and takes responsibility. We don't arrange permits, so if your duplex or unit block has no room on site, look into it before you book.

Miami questions

Common questions

How far ahead should I book a skip in Miami?

Not far. You can book a delivery as little as 36 hours ahead, so get your order in before midday and the skip can turn up tomorrow. Choose your date online and mark AM or PM. We'll try to match that half of the day, but it's not a set time.

Who arranges the council permit for a Miami skip on the street?

You do. A City of Gold Coast permit applies when the bin goes on the road, footpath or nature strip, and the customer is the one who arranges it and is responsible for it. We don't lodge applications for customers. Keep the skip on your own property and you won't need one.

What size skip suits my Miami job?

Think about the type of home first. Refreshing the bathroom or kitchen of a unit or townhouse is usually a 3m³ or 4m³ job. Gutting an older cottage sits in the 6m³ to 9m³ range. Knocking the whole place down? That's 15m³ hook bin territory, and you may need more than one. For heavy loads of dirt or concrete, ring 1800 462 674 to split them across bins.

Can a skip sit on a duplex driveway we share in Miami?

Talk to whoever shares it first. The skip may stop them getting in and out for the whole hire, so their agreement matters. Because the driveway is private land, there's no council permit involved. A duplex with a body corporate may have rules of its own, so check those too. Street placement needs a City of Gold Coast permit, which you arrange.
