Getting a skip into a Mermaid Beach block
Land in Mermaid Beach went on the market around 1924, sold as allotments in the Mermaid Beach Estate. A century on, it's a busy mix. Flats and apartments made up roughly six in ten homes at the 2021 Census, with the rest split equally between townhouses and separate houses. Down the middle runs the Gold Coast Highway, and Nobby Beach fills the southern end. With so many housing types side by side, the right skip depends on your block.
Shared driveways near the beach
On the eastern side of the highway, Hedges Avenue runs along the beach side with the Gold Coast Oceanway path. Plenty of duplexes and small unit blocks around Mermaid Beach share one driveway. If that's you, talk to your neighbours and settle on a spot for the bin before it arrives. Leave enough space for cars to come and go. On a tight driveway, a 3m³ or 4m³ skip usually slots in more comfortably than a bigger one.
Typical work in a mixed suburb
Owners of apartments and townhouses here tend to update kitchens, bathrooms and floors. And since nearly half of households rent, clearing out at the end of a lease is typical too. House blocks bring a different kind of job: garden clean-ups, whole-house renovations and, now and then, a knock-down to rebuild. For those, a 6m³ or 9m³ skip suits, and the 15m³ hook bin is made for demolition if the block can fit it.
Before the truck turns up
A little prep goes a long way. Make sure the spot where the bin will land is empty, and shift any vehicles that might block the truck. When you book, pick an AM or PM preference to help plan your day; just know it's a preference, not a guaranteed time. If the work will stretch past the standard 14 days, pick up an extra week, or go unlimited, at the booking stage so you're not racing the pick-up.
Driveway, front yard or street
There's no permit needed while the bin stays inside your boundary, whether that's on the driveway or in the front yard. Move it onto the road, footpath or nature strip and a City of Gold Coast permit becomes necessary. That's yours to arrange, and yours to be responsible for. EZI Skips doesn't handle permit applications, so allow time for it before the bin arrives.

Common questions
Can I get a skip in Mermaid Beach tomorrow?
Yes, if you book before midday. Online bookings open up delivery dates from 36 hours out, and morning orders can be delivered the next day. Choose a date and say whether you'd prefer AM or PM. We'll aim for that, though it isn't a fixed time.
Will I need a permit for a skip in Mermaid Beach?
Only if it's going on the road, footpath or nature strip. Those spots call for a City of Gold Coast permit. Arranging it, and the responsibility that comes with it, is on you. A bin on your driveway or in the front yard needs nothing at all.
How do I choose a size for a Mermaid Beach job?
Start with the space you have. A short or shared driveway suits a 3m³ or 4m³ bin, which handles a unit refresh or a single-room reno. Renovating the whole house or overhauling a big garden is better suited to a 6m³ or 9m³. Heavy waste has caps: dirt goes in a 4m³ bin at most, concrete in a 6m³.
We share a driveway. How do we make the skip work?
Talk it through with the other households first and pick a position you're all happy with. Leave a gap so cars can still get past. As long as the bin stays on the property, no permit is needed. With no room on site, a street spot requires a City of Gold Coast permit, and organising it is on you.
