Labrador
skip bin hire

Labrador sits on the Broadwater, and most homes here are units and townhouses, so the first job is deciding where the bin can go. Booking online takes a few clicks. Standard hire is a fortnight, and if you order before noon the skip can be with you the next day.

Skip bins for Labrador's units and townhouses

Labrador runs along the Broadwater. Marine Parade follows the foreshore, passing the Broad Street boat ramp and Ian Dipple Lagoon, while Frank Street takes the through traffic. It's a tightly packed suburb. At the 2021 Census, only around one home in five was a separate house, with townhouses, duplexes and apartments making up most of the rest. So a skip job here usually starts with one question: where can the bin actually go?

Moving out or renting out

At the last Census, renters lived in close to half of Labrador's homes. That makes end-of-lease clean-outs a natural job for a skip, whether you're a tenant on the way out or a landlord getting the place ready for the next one. A 3m³ bin takes about 12 wheelie bins of rubbish and a 4m³ around 16, which is a good starting range for a unit or townhouse. Standard hire is 14 days, and you can add an extra week when you book if you need it.

Working around shared driveways

In townhouse and duplex complexes, the driveway and visitor parks are usually looked after by the body corporate. Get their okay before you book. Apartment blocks can have even less space, and when there's truly nowhere on site, the skip ends up on the street. If you're in a detached house with your own driveway, things are simpler. Wherever it lands, make sure your neighbours can still get their cars in and out of the garage.

Refits, downsizing and garden tidy-ups

Beyond moving out, the housing here tends to bring a few regular jobs. Updating a unit's kitchen or bathroom is one. Downsizing clear-outs are another. On house blocks, garden tidy-ups are typical, and pure green waste can go in its own Green Waste bin. If the work includes courtyard pavers or soil, keep in mind they're heavy: the cap for dirt is a 4m³ bin, and for concrete a 6m³ bin.

When the bin needs the street

On your own property, there's nothing to apply for. Anywhere on public land, be it the road, footpath or nature strip, a City of Gold Coast permit is needed. Organising it is your job, and the responsibility is entirely yours. We don't lodge permits for customers, so allow time to get it done before delivery day. In a compact suburb like Labrador, where some apartment blocks have no room on site, it's worth checking this early.

Labrador questions

Common questions

What's the earliest I can get a skip in Labrador?

Deliveries can be booked from 36 hours ahead, and if you order before midday the bin can arrive the next day. When you book online, choose the date and an AM or PM preference. We'll aim for it, though it's not a fixed time, so plan to leave the spot clear.

When does a Labrador skip bin need a council permit?

Only when it sits on public land, meaning the road, footpath or nature strip. Then you'll need a City of Gold Coast permit. Applying for it, and being responsible for it, both fall to you. On your own driveway or in your own yard, there's no permit to worry about.

Is a 3m³ skip big enough for a Labrador unit?

For a straightforward clean-out, a 3m³ or 4m³ bin is a sensible starting point. Redoing the kitchen or bathroom in a home with two or three bedrooms could call for a 6m³. If you're lifting courtyard pavers or digging out soil, remember the limits: dirt goes in a bin no bigger than 4m³, concrete no bigger than 6m³.

Our complex shares a driveway. Can the skip go there?

It can, with the body corporate's approval, so ask them first. In most complexes the driveway and visitor parks count as common property. Once they've said yes, no council permit is needed, because it's private land. Street placement is a different story: that needs a City of Gold Coast permit, and you'd arrange it yourself.
