A skip bin plan for Main Beach apartments
Main Beach is a thin stretch of land with the ocean on one side and the Broadwater on the other. Its southern end is Narrowneck, and its northern tip is The Spit, beside the Gold Coast Seaway. The high-rises gather along Tedder Avenue, Seaworld Drive passes Marina Mirage on the way to Sea World, and you'll find the Southport Yacht Club marina on Macarthur Parade. At the 2021 Census, close to nine in every ten homes here were apartments. Freestanding houses are few and far between.
Ask the building first
In most apartment buildings, the loading bay, car park and driveway belong to everyone as common property. That puts the body corporate or building manager in charge of whether a skip can come in, where it sits and how long it stays. Get their approval in writing, then book. If space is tight, our 3m³ skip is the most compact bin we have, and it still takes roughly 12 wheelie bins of rubbish.
Downsizing and refits
Apartment life produces a particular mix of rubbish: tired kitchens and bathrooms, worn-out flooring, and furniture that won't suit the next home. At the last Census the median age here was 57, and downsizing is a common reason to book a skip. Refitting one kitchen or bathroom is generally a 3m³ or 4m³ job. Clearing a whole apartment, furniture and all, may need a 6m³, which takes around 24 wheelie bins' worth.
Houses and knock-downs
If you're one of the few Main Beach owners with a freestanding house, life is simpler. Put the skip on your own driveway and no council permit is needed. Bigger jobs like a full renovation or a knock-down can step up to a 9m³ skip or the 15m³ hook bin, which holds roughly 60 wheelie bins of waste. Just check the block has enough room for the bin and the truck.
Street placement and permits
A skip that sits entirely on private land doesn't need a permit. Kerbside on Tedder Avenue or tucked into a side street, a skip off your property needs a City of Gold Coast permit, and that covers the road, footpath and nature strip. You organise it and carry full responsibility for it. EZI Skips doesn't arrange permits for customers, so factor it in early if your building has no room on site.

Do I need council approval for a skip outside my Main Beach building?
If the skip sits on the road, footpath or nature strip, yes. A City of Gold Coast permit applies, and you're responsible for arranging it. A skip kept on private property, like a house driveway, doesn't need a council permit, though in an apartment building you still need the body corporate's okay.
My Main Beach refit might run past a fortnight. What then?
No problem. Standard hire runs for 14 days. If your apartment refit looks like taking longer, you can tack on an extra week, or switch to unlimited hire, at the time of booking. That way the bin stays put until the work is finished, and you don't have to rush the last stage of the job.
What's the smallest skip for a tight apartment car park?
The 3m³ skip. It's the most compact size in the range and holds around 12 wheelie bins or 3 box trailers of waste, enough for refitting a single bathroom or kitchen. If you have the space, a 4m³ gives you a bit more capacity and is our most popular all-rounder.
